Hi, I’m Sophie — a professional artist and teacher, specialising in semi-abstract floral and still life paintings that celebrate colour, texture, and joyful expression.
Art has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Growing up in my mother’s art studio, I was captivated by the process of creating. From an early age, I began exploring my own creative path — from painting and drawing to textiles and design.
In my late teens, I launched a knitwear label, hand-making original jumpers that combined rich colours and tactile textures. I even staged my first solo show with large painted backdrops for each piece. That love of combining mediums, colour, and form has stayed with me throughout my artistic journey.
I formally studied painting, colour theory, and arts education, qualifying as a Waldorf Art Teacher through the Tobias School of Art in Sussex, England. I taught art at The Brighton Steiner School, before expanding into adult education — running workshops in acrylics, pastels, and drawing. I was frequently invited to speak and demonstrate to art groups and societies across the UK, and I was proud to be a member of the National Acrylic Painters’ Association during that time.
My early painting career focused on the English coastline — fishing boats, harbours, and coastal cottages. I became known for my vibrant use of colour, particularly blue and orange, and exhibited widely through Open Studios, galleries, group and solo exhibitions, and national art fairs. I also founded and ran the Newhaven Artist’s Trail, part of the Brighton Fringe and Artists Open Houses Festival.
After a creative pause and a move to Perth, Australia, I rediscovered my spark in a new visual language — one rooted in the rhythm of florals, the shape of vessels, and the dance between colour and form.
Today, I create semi-abstract still lifes and florals in acrylics, working with palette knives, transparent layers, and a growing mix of mixed media techniques to create depth, emotion, and energy.
Whether you're an art collector or simply someone who loves beautiful, expressive work, I hope my paintings bring a sense of joy and individuality to your space.
